Malawi-The FAM National Women's Championship will kick off with two matches on Saturday, as Nyasa Big Bullets Women host Destiny Academy at Mpira Stadium and Moyale face off against Ascent Academy at Mzuzu, writes Victor Musongole.
Nyasa Big Bullets Women's head coach Maggie Chombo expressed confidence in her team despite missing some regular players.
"We had a good week of preparation. I know Destiny Academy is a good side, but my players are eager to win their first game at home," she said.
Meanwhile, Destiny Academy coach Yohane Fulaye is confident his players will secure maximum points.
"My players are in good shape, and we hope to get all three points in our first game on Saturday, though we know it will not be easy. The best team will win," he said.
In another match, Moyale Women's Football team assistant coach Bridget Chirwa expressed optimism despite the loss of some veteran players.
"We are building a good squad now with some new faces. I believe we will come out victorious," she said.
Ascent Academy coach Thom Mkorongo is also confident ahead of their first away fixture.
"We will have to do anything to get maximum points, though we don't want to put pressure on our players," he said.
On Sunday, two matches are scheduled, with Ntopwa hosting Evirom at Mpira Stadium and DD Sunshine facing Topik at Civo Stadium.
Soccer analyst Pally Chinyama believes that Group A, which includes the Nyasa Big Bullets Women, Cy Sisters' champions for South and North, DD Sunshine, Topik, and Destiny Academy, will be highly competitive.
"It seems to be a group of death, and we expect a tough group," he said.
Group B consists of central region champions Ascent Academy, Northern region runners-up Moyale Barracks Women, Ntopwa, Evirom, and Civil Service Women.
