Mzuzu, Malawi - The Football Association of Malawi launched the FIFA Women's Football Campaign on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium, writes Victor Musongole.
The global campaign aims to nurture and empower girls through FAM's under-14 and under-16 women's leagues, boosting participation while raising awareness and empowerment.
Speaking to girls partaking in launch games, campaign ambassador Asimenye Simwaka encouraged discipline and focus.
"Girls should stay committed to their education goals and ignore negative talks. That focus has sustained my football career," said Simwaka.
Another ambassador, veteran Lindah Kasenda advised avoiding immorality to progress in life and sports after a 16-year football career.
FA M Technical Director Benjamin Kumwenda praised the girls' display in 6-a-side games, saying: "I'm impressed. We'll use 8-a-side in the league for good development."
Kumwenda revealed FIFA will provide training kits, jerseys, and match balls for participating teams.
"FIFA will provide everything teams need," said Kumwenda.
FA M held a similar Lilongwe launch on Saturday, with Blantyre's next weekend.
The leagues are slated for next month.
FAM hopes the campaign - promoting gender equality through "the beautiful game," will empower more Malawian girls to realise their potential through football.
