LILONGWE, Malawi-Mchinji-based Extreme FC registered their first win of the 2023 TNM Super League season on Saturday, June 10, beating Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 1-0 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, writes Happy Valirani.
The win moved Extreme FC to 15th place on the table, while Wanderers dropped to third place.
Gregory Mwase scored the only goal of the game in the 38th minute, heading in a free kick from John Chalamanda.
Wanderers were reduced to 10 men in the second half when defender Miracle Gabeya was sent off for a reckless challenge.
Despite their numerical advantage, the Wanderers were unable to find an equaliser.
Extreme FC coach Elvis Kafoteka was delighted with the win, saying: "I'm thanking God for the victory. Secondly, I thank my boys for following the instructions I've been teaching them at training. I told them that everything in football is possible, so they gave everything for the game, and I'm thrilled."
Wanderers assistant coach Alfred Manyozo Jr. admitted that his side was outplayed, saying: "Honestly, this is so embarrassing. Coming here and dropping points with the team that is below us on the log table is such a shame. In the second half, we tried to come into the game and create some chances, but it's a matter of attitude. I think we as players need to sit down and think."
In other TNM Super League games on Saturday, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets returned to the top of the table with a 4-1 win over Ekwendeni Hammers, while Karonga United drew 1-1 with Mighty Waka Waka Tigers.
