MZIMBA, Malawi - The long-awaited construction of three culverts along the Luwazi River at Enukweni in Mzimba district has finally been completed, the Roads Authority spokesperson Portia Kajanga confirmed, writes Lumbani Kaunda.
The contractor is expected to hand over the project early next month.
This significant milestone marks the end of a K2 billion project that gained attention in 2021 when the Enukweni bridge succumbed to heavy rains, prompting urgent reconstruction efforts.
Initially undertaken by Chivundiko Construction, challenges led to the termination of their contract.
Fargo Construction then took over and successfully completed the project.
The newly-constructed culverts and restored bridge hold promising implications for the local community and regional connectivity, bolstering transportation efficiency and safety for residents and commercial activities.
