Engineers Grand Entry into MCP Stirs Excitement Among Party Loyalists
Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba's entry into MCP generates enthusiasm as he pledges support to President Chakwera and foresees victory in 2025.
MZUZU, MALAWI — A grand procession accompanied Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba to the MCP regional headquarters, invigorating party supporters with his commitment to President Chakwera and vision for victory in 2025, writes Draxon Maloya.
The streets of Mzuzu City's Central Business District came alive on Tuesday afternoon as a convoy of expensive cars, motorcycles, bicyclists, and dancing youth groups adorned in MCP regalia captured the attention of onlookers.
The spectacle marked Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba's formalisation of his party membership at the MCP's North-South regional headquarters.
Addressing the gathering at the regional party offices, Mzuzu City Mayor Gift Desire Nyirenda lauded Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba as a diligent individual determined to contribute to the party's growth.
Nyirenda urged party officials to embrace new members joining the MCP, highlighting the need for unity and collective support to secure victory in the 2025 elections.
"Mumba has tirelessly traversed the northern region, extending support to bolster our party's growth. We require unity; no individual can win an election without the backing of others. Together, we will ensure that we remain in government beyond 2025. We need more individuals like him for support," Nyirenda stated.
In his impassioned speech, Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba pledged to continue supporting the MCP and committed to President Lazarus Chakwera's re-election in 2025.
Drawing inspiration from biblical references, Mumba likened the party's journey to that of the Israelites crossing the Red Sea and the River Jordan, expressing confidence in their eventual triumph.
"In my interpretation of the Bible, for every Red Sea, there is a River Jordan. Remember, the Israelites crossed the Red Sea and then the Jordan River. We crossed the Red Sea in 2020, and in 2025, we will be crossing the River Jordan to finally enter Canaan," Mumba confidently declared.
Joseph Chavula, Chairman of the MCP North-South political region, welcomed Mumba and urged party members to maintain unity by upholding the party's four cornerstones: unity, loyalty, obedience, and discipline.
Chavula praised Mumba's adherence to the party's hierarchical structure, emphasising the need for all new members to follow the same path.
"Mumba has navigated the correct channels to reach this point, starting from the Area level, then progressing through the Constituency and Political District. This is the expected process for all individuals joining the party. I also urge him to remain disciplined, as it is this discipline that has kept the party united," Chavula remarked.
In response, Chavula encouraged Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba to continue his support for the party.
While acknowledging the existence of secret meetings aimed at toppling him from his position, Chavula confidently asserted that such attempts would fail.
He challenged his detractors, stating that he was elected into his role and could only be removed through a similar democratic process.
Despite the celebration surrounding Mumba's entry into the party, his specific position or nomination for the 2024 MCP elective national convention remains undisclosed.
