HARARE, ZIMBABWE — Elite Africa Research has predicted a runoff in Zimbabwe's general elections scheduled for August 23, 2023, writes Shorai Murwira.
The research reveals that Nelson Chamisa of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is projected to have an 8% winning margin if the elections are fair.
If the results align with the prediction, Zimbabweans will brace for a runoff between Chamisa and current president Emmerson Mnangagwa on October 2.
The research, based on 2,000 respondents, shows that 47.6% would vote for Chamisa, while 38.7% would vote for Mnangagwa.
Both candidates are front runners in a race that includes nine other contenders.
The research also indicates that the CCC is expected to achieve a 9% win in Parliament and Council elections on the same day.
