Ekwendeni United Ousted in FDH Cup via Penalty Shootout

MZIMBA, Malawi - Ekwendeni United, the 2023 FDH Cup hopefuls, were dramatically eliminated from this year's competition after losing 4-1 on penalties to Mmbelwa Warriors in a Round 2 match on Wednesday at Chibwaka Ground, writes Lumbanie Kaunda
The match ended 0-0 after 90 minutes, with Mmbelwa Warriors dominating but failing to capitalize on their chances. In the shootout, Warriors goalkeeper Noel was the hero, saving three consecutive penalties.
"We could have won the game in the first half, but the boys failed to find the back of the net. However, I am happy that we have won the game," said Mmbelwa coach Nyirenda after the tense encounter.
In other FDH Cup second round action, Iponga United rallied from a goal down to defeat Chitipa White Movers 2-1, while Chintheche United edged Eagles Strikers 1-0.
