RUMPHI, Malawi — In an exciting Super League encounter, Ekwendeni Hammers held Nyasa Big Bullets to a 1-1 draw at Rumphi Stadium on Saturday, writes Victor Musongole.
Isaac Msiska opened the scoring for the home side at the 40th-minute mark in the first half, converting a well-placed free kick from his captain, Blessings Singini.
However, Nyasa Big Bullets responded just before halftime, with Lanjesi Nkhoma delivering an equalizer.
Both teams made tactical changes in the second half, but they failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities, resulting in a final score of 1-1.
Ekwendeni Hammers' Luckson Nyoni spoke about the match's outcome, noting that it would serve as motivation for his players, even though they relaxed after taking the lead.
"Not a bad result, considering where we are coming from. We scored first, and the boys relaxed after that, hence we conceded. We will regroup and do better; definitely, we will finish in the top 8," Nyoni commented.
Nyasa Big Bullets' head coach, Kalisto Pasuwa, expressed his disappointment with his team's performance, stating that they couldn't adapt to the challenging pitch conditions.
"It was a very scrappy game. We failed to manage the game, considering we were playing against the wind on a bumpy pitch, but we will draw positives from this game," Pasuwa said in a post-match interview.
Blessings Singini, the captain of Ekwendeni Hammers, was recognized as the Player of the Match for his exceptional performance.

Nyasa Big Bullets, on the other hand, remains second on the league table with 44 points from 21 games, just three points behind the league leaders, Mighty Wanderers, who have 47 points.
