Egypt, Ukraine Eye Closer Economic Ties in Agricultural Trade Talks

CAIRO, Egypt — Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, met with Ukrainian Agricultural Minister Vitaly Kovaly on to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and trade opportunities, writes Winston Mwale.
The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in agriculture, logistics, and investment, with both countries expressing interest in deepening economic partnerships.
"Ukraine is a key trade partner for Egypt," Al-Mashat said, highlighting the potential for joint agricultural projects and grain storage initiatives.
Kovaly noted Ukraine's robust agricultural sector, which contributes 59% of the country's foreign exchange earnings. Ukrainian agricultural exports to Egypt grew 32% last year, reaching $1.4 billion.
Al-Mashat emphasized Egypt's strategic Suez Canal Economic Zone as a potential logistics hub for Ukrainian exports to Africa.
The minister also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in seed production, farming, and food manufacturing.
