LILONGWE, Malawi - Sycamore Consult has conducted a two-day team building training for staff members at Electricity Generation Company (Egenco) with the goal of improving performance in line with the company's vision, values and objectives, writes Judgement Katika.
"We expect to see improvements in their day-to-day performance, organizational output, respect for each other, tolerance and ability to accommodate each other," said Sycamore Executive Director Audrey Mwala.
Mwala said the training should help staff become a high-performing team that works together.
"Working individually can only achieve so much, but working as a team makes it easier to accomplish more than any one person could on their own," Mwala said.
"We expect them to adopt a team mentality, resulting in higher productivity, commitment and more meetings to align on tasks and review performance," she added.
Mwala said the intensive training provided both classroom instruction on team building concepts and exercises tailored to Egenco's specific needs.
Topics covered included: characteristics of successful teams, importance of team leadership, financial management, emotional intelligence, staff motivation, building trust and stages of team development.
Egenco Director of Planning and Development Engineer Dr. Gregory Gamula said the training was important because it brought together staff from all levels to interact, regardless of rank.
"It reminds us that we need to work together as a team toward shared objectives and aspirations," Gamula said.
Gamula added that Egenco aims to continue providing quality electricity services to Malawi in 2023 by ensuring plans are executed flawlessly.
