EGENCO Reviews Strategic Plan to Enhance Feasibility Studies
EGENCO reviews strategic plan to enhance feasibility studies for Wovwe, Kammwamba, Salima power plants.
LILONGWE, Malawi-The Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) has announced that it is reviewing its strategic plan to enhance feasibility studies for three projects: Wovwe Power Station, Kammwamba Coal Fire Power Plant, and Salima Solar, writes Judgement Katika.
The projects are all in the medium- to long-term investment phase, and EGENCO CEO William Kammwamba said that there is a need to have the financial muscle to support and implement them.
"Feasibility studies are always expensive investments, and we have already invested a lot of money," Kammwamba said.
Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola said that the strategic plan helps to follow and measure EGENCO's capabilities and that the review will help to accomplish the vision and mission of Malawi2063.
"This is the right time to make reviews, and the ministry is ready to support the initiatives from government companies like Egenco," Matola said.
Matola also stressed that the Songwe River Basin Project will start soon after all the paperwork is finalised.
The project is expected to generate 180 megawatts.
Malawi has also had a groundbreaking ceremony with its counterpart, Mozambique, for the easy tapping of power and the stability of the power supply in the country.
There is also a vision for power trade through the African Power Pool.
