Education Key for Country's Development, Says Water and Sanitation Minister

Chikwawa, Malawi - Water and Sanitation Minister Abida Sidik Mia emphasized the importance of education for the development of the country during a visit to Goma Primary School on Monday, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Mia, who is also the Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Nkombezi, presented awards to 24 best-performing students, commending their hard work and dedication.
Mia highlighted the role of education in fostering community development, stating, "For every development to take place, there is a need for knowledgeable communities."
She encouraged the students to continue their hard work in secondary school and strive to achieve their goals.
The Minister also expressed gratitude to parents for prioritizing education over engaging their children in businesses such as selling mandazi.
Mia acknowledged the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for its significant contribution to education development.
She revealed that 5% of the CDF allocation, amounting to 5 Million Kwacha, is dedicated to providing bursaries.
Chipiliro Zainga, the Principal Education Officer for Chikwawa, commended the parliamentarian for her support.
"This is a good development and encouragement to the learners in schools," said Zainga.
Each student was awarded K40,000 along with scholastic materials, marking the Minister's commitment to recognizing and rewarding academic excellence.
The visit to Goma Primary School by Minister Mia highlights the government's focus on education as a vital tool for national progress.
With the provision of resources and encouragement, the hope is that more students will be motivated to excel academically and contribute to the overall development of the country.
