Dutch Engineer to Register NGO to Help Malawians with Electricity, Water
Dutch engineer registers NGO in Malawi to provide electricity, water to poor.
MZUZU, Malawi: Marco Hof, a 50-year-old engineer and environment technologist from the Netherlands, is in the process of registering a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Malawi to help poor people in rural areas have access to electricity and portable clean water, writes Tionge Hara.
Hof told AfricaBrief in an interview on Tuesday that he was inspired to start the NGO after seeing the lack of basic necessities in rural Malawi.
Hof's NGO is still in the early stages of development, but he is confident that it will be a success.
In Kenya some advanced locals worked out how to make use of local rivers and streams to generate electricity in their village. It is a very simple thing but Kenya has more perennial streams to allow small hydro projects to take place.
