Dr. Mathews Mtumbuka's motivating words resonated with the attendees, instilling a renewed sense of optimism and a commitment to pursuing their dreams with resilience.
Salima, Malawi - Dr Mathews Mtumbuka, one of Malawi's youngest successful entrepreneurs and a renowned motivational speaker, delivered an inspiring message to Catholic Journalists, urging them to foster positivity and creativity in the face of life's challenges, writes Esther Banda.
He emphasised the importance of having a dream and the ability to solve problems during his motivational speech at the 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the Association of Catholic Journalists (ACJ).
The AGM, held from August 25th to 27th, 2023, adopted the theme "Reporting in Charity about Older Persons Gender and Protection in Humanitarian Responses" and took place at Bishop Chitsulo Cottage in Chipoka, Salima District.
Dr. Mtumbuka's message extended beyond the realm of journalism, as he stressed that his advice was pertinent to all the youth across the country.
He highlighted the key to success as having a compelling and ambitious life dream that serves as a guiding force towards one's desired destination.
"It's very important to have a big dream in life that will scare you because it will help you to have a purpose in life of where you want to be and when. And it's also very necessary to have people around us who are good at solving problems so that we can avoid having fake friends that will lead us into failure," said Dr. Mtumbuka.
Furthermore, Dr. Mtumbuka encouraged Catholic Journalists and youth across Malawi to explore entrepreneurship alongside their jobs, emphasising the myriad benefits of this pursuit.
He stressed the importance of entrepreneurship as an additional income source, a fallback during career challenges, and a creator of job opportunities within the country.
Fr. Francis Damaseke, the National Communication and Research Coordinator for the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), graced the AGM as the guest of honour.
He commended Dr. Mtumbuka's speech, asserting that it would empower Catholic Journalists and youth to have faith in their ability to achieve their aspirations.
"Catholic Journalists and the youth in this country should not perceive problems negatively; they should maintain an optimistic outlook because each problem can be a stepping stone, particularly when faced with calmness during moments of crisis and adversity," explained Fr. Damaseke.
He also reminded the public that despite life's challenges, they should continue moving forward, as the belief in God's creation in His image remains the ultimate source of hope.
