Malawi-The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is set to hold a blue night dinner and dance party in Blantyre on Saturday, according to DPP National Organising Secretary Chimwemwe Chipungu, writes Judgment Katika.
The event will be attended by former President and DPP leader Arthur Mutharika, as well as former First Lady Gertrude Mutharika.
Chipungu said the party aims to raise funds to be fully operational and welcomes any contribution.
The DPP lost the 2020 tripartite election to the Tonse-led government.
Chipungu opposed rumours circulating on social media that Mutharika would not attend the event, saying he would be in attendance.
Chipungu stated that DPP members are excited to have the opportunity to meet and greet with the former president and enjoy a night of dining and dancing.
He further added that the purpose of the event is not only to raise funds but also to strengthen the party's unity and bond among its members.
"We are looking forward to a great night where our members can come together, have some fun, and contribute to the party's efforts," Chipungu said.
The DPP has been facing some challenges since losing the 2020 election, including divisions and leadership issues.
The party hopes that the Blue Night Dinner and Dance Party will serve as a platform for members to come together and show their support.
The event is expected to attract a large turnout, with party members and supporters from across the country expected to attend.
The DPP has also invited members of other political parties to attend the event.
