DPP MP Says Sports Can Deepen Community Integration

MWANZA, Malawi-Mwanza West Member of Parliament Joyce Chitsulo has said sports, in particular football, can help in deepening and widening integration among the community, writes Judgement Katika.
Chitsulo was speaking yesterday in her constituency, where she presided over the final football bonanza between Envulo and Kayera football clubs as part of celebrating her birthday.
"Apart from community cohesion and integration, community football leagues and bonanzas are the heartbeats of any football national team in the world," said Chitsulo who is also the Public Appointments Committee Chairperson of Parliament.
She also added that regardless of our cultural diversity, sports disciplines have the capacity to bring society together as sports bring happiness to society.
"Sports break down barriers that divide us from one another and promote peace and harmony. Sports also prevent acts of vandalism. In summary, sports is a religion that binds us," said Chitsulo
In the Kunali bonanza match, Envulo beat Kuyera 2:1 and cart home K150,000, football uniforms and footballs while Kayera pocketed K100,000, football uniforms and footballs.
In the Nyau Bonanza, Mandaawana got K100,000 plus 24 pieces of 'zitenje' while number 2 got Kamkoma got away with K50,000 and 24 'zitenje.
