Dowa, Ntchisi District Councils Train Local Revenue Collectors to Boost Local Revenue

DOWA, Malawi - In a significant initiative to improve local revenue collection and address inequality, Dowa and Ntchisi district councils, with support from the Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC), have undertaken training for local revenue collectors on business registration, writes Mphatso M'bang'ombe.
Noel Msiska, MHRCC Capacity Building Associate, stated that the training aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and fairness while empowering local authorities to provide better services to their communities through local revenue collections and fight inequality.
“We believe that by training revenue collectors on business registration procedures, we can improve local revenue in Malawi,” said Msiska.
Praise Kanyangalazi, Dowa District Council Commercial Management Officer expressed gratitude to MHRCC for supporting these two district councils.
“By understanding the importance of business registration and implementing transparent and accountable revenue collection processes, these districts can bridge economic disparities,” said Kanyangalazi.
