At an awareness campaign held at Mondwe Primary School in the area of Traditional Authority Kayembe on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, the NICE Public Trust organised the event to educate citizens about the newly amended electoral laws.
"We believe that these interventions are instrumental in promoting community participation and transparency in electoral processes," said Senior Group Village Headman (SGVH) Njati, commending the NICE Office for involving them in the execution of the awareness meetings.
The traditional leaders pledged their continued support to the NICE Office in their mission to educate and empower the citizens of Dowa District.
The District Civic Education Officer (DCEO), Alinafe Chikakuda, highlighted that the interventions aim to popularise the newly amended electoral laws, enhancing participation, transparency, and accountability in the upcoming 2025 tripartite elections.
"By empowering citizens with knowledge and understanding, the NICE Office is fostering a culture of active citizenship and encouraging them to take part in matters of governance and public affairs," said Chikakuda.
Chikakuda emphasised that the newly amended laws will be used during the upcoming tripartite elections in 2025. To be registered as eligible voters in the 2025 elections, communities need to have national identification.
