MPONELA, Malawi — The Dowa District Council has engaged market committees on e-ticketing and issued a stern warning against illegal local revenue collections in the district, writes Mphatso M’bang’ombe.
Speaking during a town hall meeting in Mponela, Martin Luka, Chairperson of the Dowa District Council Finance Committee, said the engagement aims to facilitate the smooth implementation of e-ticketing in the district and encourage stakeholder participation and ownership of the project.
Luka expressed the district council’s commitment to enhancing local revenue collection, aligning it with the Malawi 2063 Agenda.
“We believe that the introduction of e-ticketing in our markets will revolutionise revenue collection. It will promote transparency, accountability, and foster trust between the council and market vendors,” said Luka.
He urged all community members to refrain from engaging in any illegal revenue collection activities, warning that violators will face strict consequences.
“We are determined to promote lawful revenue generation for the development of our district,” Luka added.
