Double Signing Bolsters Silver Strikers
Katinji and Chikooka join Christopher Gototo, Macdonald Lameck and Charles Chipala as new additions to the Silver Strikers squad.
LILONGWE, Malawi— Silver Strikers have completed the transfer of goalkeeper George Chikooka from Chitipa United and forward Binwell Katinji from Civil Servants United, the club has announced, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
It’s a double addition for the central bankers as they welcome Chikooka, who has signed a three-year deal after serving Chitipa since 2018. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Katinji, who originally joined Silver in 2016 before moving to Malanti Chiefs in Eswatini, was released by Civil at the end of last season and has now returned to Silver on a two-year deal.
“I’m delighted to return to Silver Strikers as I think I had an unfinished project that I want to fulfill," Katinji said. "I understand very well what it requires to be here and I will work hard to do well."
Katinji scored 11 goals last season in the TNM Super League.
Chikooka, who has also spent time at Baka City, said he didn't hesitate when offered a chance to join Silver.
"Just like every footballer, I always want to move one step further in my career and I think my move to Silver is one such step," he said.
Silver Strikers legend Ulanda Kalua welcomed both players and said they will provide options during a demanding season.
“I like them and they are such intelligent players,” Kalua said.
“They are going to give us options in a demanding season. At the end we are happy the process has been completed, and the players are available to play us next season."
