DoDMA Receives, Hands Over K367 Million Evacuation Centre in Nsanje
The evacuation centre will temporarily serve as Makhanga Community Day Secondary School while the institution awaits site identification within the same area.
Nsanje, Malawi — The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) took delivery of a K367 million evacuation centre, which was subsequently handed over to the District Council in the area of Senior Chief Mlolo in Nsanje, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
The infrastructure was officially handed over by Charles Kalemba, Commissioner for DoDMA, who received it on behalf of the government from Shapla Building Contractor. Kalemba commended the contractor for their exceptional workmanship.
He praised Shapla Building Contractor for their dedication and commitment to delivering quality infrastructure for the betterment of Malawians, emphasizing the importance of the work they do.
Commissioner Kalemba also issued a warning to the local communities to prevent vandalism of the materials in the infrastructure, highlighting that the project was made possible with a grant from the African Development Bank (ADB).
Daisten Mphonde, Principal Public Works Officer for Nsanje, echoed the commissioner's sentiments, praising the contractor for their excellent work.
He noted that every aspect of the project was executed according to the design specifications.
Mphonde further highlighted the positive relationship between the contractor, traditional and political leaders, and the local communities throughout the project.

Four primary schools have already been relocated from flood-prone areas, and tents have been provided for the students to occupy.
