DJ Spyda to be honored in Lilongwe

MALAWI: Lilongwe-based Reggae dancehall music lovers and musicians are set to award one of the country’s renowned Disc Jockeys (DJs), DJ Spyda for playing a big role in the promotion of Reggae dancehall music in the country.
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Luxurious Cultural Center situated at Area 23/Gologota in Lilongwe.
In an interview with one of the organizers of the activity who is also a musician, Binge real name Chiyembekezo Mpunga said everything is ready for the occasion to take place.
“Everything is set for the event and we are all ready to appreciate and encourage DJ Spyda for his contribution in promoting Malawi’s Reggae dancehall music,” Binge said.
He also said that the forthcoming award ceremony is the beginning of their mission which is aiming at appreciating various people in the country for their good work.
“The upcoming award ceremony will be the beginning of our work which we want to award various individuals such as, music promoters, journalists, DJs, and Master of Ceremonies (MCs),” he said.
He, therefore, advised the public to develop the spirit of cherishing the good work of people saying that doing so would help to build a better Malawi.
“Malawians must learn to appreciate and encourage somebody’s good work while he or she is alive, as Malawians we must learn to support each other if we have to create a better Malawi,” he explained.
Currently, over 10 musicians have been confirmed to perform at the award ceremony and some of these artists are; Grewiz, Royview, Felistus, Jungle Jex, Njuchi Veda, Kay Stevoh, Impiana, and Binge just to mention a few.
Binge urged Lilongwe residents to patronize the award ceremony in their large numbers; however, he said that they will be asked to pay K1000 at the door.
Grewiz who is on the lineup to perform at the function said that she has finalized all rehearsals in preparation for the event.
“I am ready to take up the stage and I am very prepared as the upcoming show is not just an ordinary show but it is something that has been organized to honor DJ Spyda for taking a big part in promoting Reggae dancehall music,” Grewiz said.
