Deputy Minister Urges Students to Impact Communities During AGE Africa Retreat
Deputy Minister of Health urges students to use knowledge to impact communities during the 2023 All Scholars Retreat organized by AGE Africa in Dowa.
DOWA, MALAWI — Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daud MP, has encouraged students to utilise their knowledge acquired in school to make a difference in their communities, writes Abraham Bisayi.
Speaking on Saturday at the 2023 All Scholars Retreat organized by Advancing Girls Education in Africa (AGE Africa) in Dowa, Daud emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with like-minded individuals and seeking guidance from mentors.
During her speech, Daud urged students to shape their destinies and create a meaningful and fulfilling future.
She highlighted the significance of uplifting those in need, embracing challenges, and cultivating a love for lifelong learning.
Daud also called on AGE Africa to expand its programmes to benefit more young Malawians across the country.
Ulanda Mtamba, AGE Africa's country director, revealed that the organisation conducted a needs assessment survey that indicated that providing scholarships alone was insufficient to keep students in school.
AGE Africa focuses on imparting entrepreneurial skills alongside scholarships.
Mtamba emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship and encouraged students to explore this path to success.
At the retreat, 15 students and 8 faculty advisors from various secondary schools in the district were presented with awards by AGE Africa.
Bzyanzi Secondary School was recognised as the overall best school in Dowa.
Hendrix Kamwambeni, a teacher at Bzyanzi Secondary School, expressed gratitude for the organization's recognition and affirmed that it would help the school implement more innovative skills and address social problems in society.
The 2023 All Scholars Retreat centered around the theme "shaping the future; creating young sustainable entrepreneurs."
The retreat aimed to empower students with innovative and entrepreneurship skills, allowing them to make a positive impact in their communities.
