Cyber Conference for Women to Address Equality, Bullying
Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) will host the Women in Cyber conference to promote women's participation in ICT and address cyber bullying.
LILONGWE, MALAWI — The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is set to host the Women in Cyber conference from August 1–4, 2023, at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe, writes Moses Nyirenda.
The conference aims to encourage young women to participate in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector and address the gender gap.
Speaking at a press briefing, Mary Botomani, MACRA's Head of Human Resources and Administration and Vice Chairperson of the organising committee, emphasised the need for more women in ICT.
"We want to educate these ladies that ICT is not only for men. We want to encourage them that, as women, we also have the capability to lead in the ICT sector," said Botomani.
The conference will provide knowledge and skills to empower women to tackle issues of cyberbullying.
The women in the cyber conference will host international delegates from countries such as Canada, the United States of America (USA), Kenya, Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique, and Nigeria. These delegates will deliver presentations on various topics related to ICT.
Notably, the conference aims to inspire female students from educational institutions at all levels to consider pursuing a career in ICT.
"As they are building their careers, they should be aware that the possibility of pursuing ICT and succeeding in that industry is possible," explained Botomani.
Miss Malawi, who will be present at the conference, will share her personal experience and strategies for overcoming cyberbullying.
The Women in Cyber conference in Malawi signifies a significant step towards promoting gender equality in the ICT sector and equipping women with the necessary skills to combat cyberbullying.
