CSAT, Nyika Media Club Engage on Transparency, Accountability
CSAT aims to promote good governance and collaborative engagement between citizens and duty bearers to enhance mutual accountability and transparency in using public resources.
MZUZU, Malawi - The Center for Social Accountability and Transparency (CSAT) recently engaged journalists from Nyika Media Club on improving transparency and accountability in the country, writes Alinafe Sambo.
"As CSAT, we will be working hand in hand with the media to ensure issues of social accountability and general governance are well written and documented," said Moffat Mpweya Phiri, CSAT's Citizen Engagement Manager.
Phiri stressed during an engagement dinner on Thursday the importance of organizations and the media working together to enhance transparency and accountability.
Feston Malekezo, Chairperson of Nyika Media Club, said the engagement helped journalists understand how to better cover transparency and accountability stories.
"The media is sometimes limited in covering accountability stories due to financial issues," Malekezo said.
"We appeal to CSAT to assist these journalists in publishing their stories."
