Community Organization Empowers Self-Help Groups in Rural Malawi
From this rural hub, the organization hopes to transform livelihoods by strengthening skills and expanding markets for self-help entrepreneurs.
MZIMBA, Malawi - Members of rural self-help groups in northern Malawi received a boost on Saturday thanks to a visit from the Chairman of the Network for Self-Help Community Organizations (neSco) in Africa, writes Aubrey Ligomeka.
James Safari Mwamule led a neSco delegation on field visits to self-help groups in Traditional Authority Mtwalo's communities.
The organization aims to lift up grassroots organizations through training, market access and skills development.
NeSco supports over 120 registered self-help groups across Mzimba District.
During the visits, Mwamule outlined neSco's plans to empower groups through baking, shoe-making, soap-making and basketry training programs.
The organization also helps community groups network, strengthen operations and promote a culture of work and savings.
A key goal is connecting locally produced goods to international buyers.
Members of groups in Ekwaiweni, Kafukule and Mtwalo Trading Center met with the neSco team.
The visits aimed to motivate communities while providing an update on planned programs.
NeSco's headquarters will be located in Ekwendeni Trading Center.
From this rural hub, the organization hopes to transform livelihoods by strengthening skills and expanding markets for self-help entrepreneurs.
By visiting grassroots organizations directly, NeSco is demonstrating its commitment to empowering farmers and artisans from the ground up for a more prosperous future.
