Communities Frustrated Over Delay in Mtsukamakoza Health Centre Completion
Group Village Headman Kaunjilire expressed disappointment, stating that the delay is depriving the community of their right to essential health services.
Dowa, Malawi - Community members residing at Mtsukamakoza in the area of Senior Chief Chakhaza in Dowa district have raised concerns about the extended delay in the construction of the Mtsukamakoza Health Centre, writes Mphatso M'bang'ombe.
Group Village Headman Kaunjilire expressed disappointment, stating that the delay is depriving the community of their right to essential health services.
The construction process began in 2017 with funding from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
However, it has faced significant delays.
"Community members have to travel long distances to access health services," said GVH Kaunjilire.
He added that the prolonged delay in the construction of the health facility in the area has left the community members frustrated and concerned about their access to vital healthcare services, infringing upon their right to health.
Hilda Nkhuyu, a local resident, stated, "We have been waiting for this health centre for too long, and we are asking the government to take our concerns seriously and allocate funds for the construction work of the facility as soon as possible."
Alinet James, another resident in the area, added that the delay in completing the health facility is a significant setback for the community. They are forced to travel long distances to access medical treatment, leading to delays and compromised health outcomes.
"We urge the Malawi government to prioritize the completion of this essential facility," said Alinet James.
In response, Dowa District Council Chairperson Mayamiko Kambewa acknowledged that access to healthcare is essential for the overall well-being of the community.
He reiterated the council's commitment to accelerating the construction project and providing the general public with the healthcare services they desperately need.
"We are diligently working to complete projects like the Mtsukamakonza health facility, and I can confirm that the council is compiling its Annual Investment Plan (AIP) to ensure transparency and accountability," said Kambewa.
