Coaches Undergo Refresher Ahead of 2024 Season

BLANTYRE, Malawi - Football coaches in Malawi are set to participate in a two-day refresher course to prepare for the 2024 season, writes Happy Valirani.
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has organized the training, which will take place at FAM headquarters in Mpira Village. It will run Monday and Tuesday, February 19-20.
"Usually a refresher course is when we are trying to bring some new things," said FAM Technical Director Benjamin Kumwenda.
The course will focus on player performance analysis using modern technologies. Sinesipho Mali, a performance analyst for South Africa's national team, will lead the training.
"We want to equip our coaches to have a better knowledge," Kumwenda said. "The modern game would like you to see how strong or weak your opponents are so that your preparations will improve better on that."
Coaches will also learn video analysis skills to study opponents in Malawi's 16-team Super League.
The league uses the Mpira Connect and FIFA Plus platforms.
"Gone are the days when you don't analyse your opponents," Kumwenda said.
National team coaches will join Super League coaches for part of the training. Kumwenda said this will improve collaboration between the groups, since national team players come from Super League clubs.
