Civil Service Outclass Chitipa in Super League Clash
The victory lifts Civil Service to 6th in the league standings with 11 points after 8 matches played.
KARONGA, Malawi— Civil Service United produced a superb all-round performance to defeat struggling Chitipa United 3-1 in a TNM Super League match at Karonga Stadium on Friday, writes Lusekero Mhango.
Emmanuel Saviel starred for the visitors with a brilliant second-half brace, while Righteous Banda had opened the scoring. Lamson Lukali briefly equalized for Chitipa.
After a sluggish start, Civil Service took the lead midway through the first half as Banda capitalized on a poor clearance to slot home following a Damiano Kunje corner.
Chitipa responded quickly after the break with Lukali flicking in a Beza corner to level the scores, but their joy was short-lived.
Saviel headed Civil Service back ahead in the 65th minute from a Chikaiko Batson cross. He then sealed the win with a stunning 20-yard strike into the top corner that left Chitipa goalkeeper Barton Silavwe no chance.
"It was a goal worthy of winning any match, showcasing Saviel's technical skill and confidence," said Civil Service coach Abbas Makawa, who was delighted with his team's performance.
Chitipa coach McNebert Kazuwa rued his side's lack of composure in front of goal as the defeat leaves them in the relegation zone with just 5 points from 8 games.
The victory lifts Civil Service to 6th in the league standings with 11 points after 8 matches played.
