Malawi-Seven cases of cholera have been confirmed in the Chibavi ward of Mzuzu City, according to laboratory samples, writes Tionge Hara.
Gabriel Lusungu Mwaungulu, who represents the ward, says seven people diagnosed with the disease are from Chibavi, and he is unsure about the status of other wards.
Mwaungulu expressed concern that the government is not doing enough to address the outbreak.
"Fellow Mzuzu citizens, let's all observe the strictest measures that health experts are advising us as the government is sleeping on the job," he said.
Meanwhile, President Chakwera dismissed concerns about the government's response to the outbreak.
"I just launched the Tithetse Cholera m'Malawi campaign. He should clearly pay more attention to issues happening in the country," Chakwera said.
Mzimba North Health Officer spokesperson Lovemore Kawayi called for urgent attention to control the spread of the disease, adding that vaccination or precautionary measures may be necessary.
