Malawi: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma has warned people in power that their positions and fame will not protect them from prosecution if they engage in corruption.

She has also warned those with political connections that their connections will not protect them from prosecution and that they will be prosecuted.

Regardless of their status, they are still subject to the law, she said.

Ms Chizuma was speaking at the Anti-Corruption Day commemorations in Kasungu on Friday.

This is her first public appearance since her arrest on Tuesday and subsequent release.

Those who practise and aid in corruption, according to Ms Chizuma, are a threat to Malawian society.

Meanwhile, President Lazarus Chakwera has suggested that the police officers who raided Chizuma's home may have been cadets recruited by the previous administration and still serving in the police force.
