Chitipa United Tops TNM Super League Table with Win Over Hammers

Karonga, Malawi - Chitipa United triumphed over Ekwendeni Hammers with a score of 1-0 in a thrilling TNM Super League match held at Karonga Stadium on Saturday, writes Victor Musongole.
The victory propelled Chitipa United to the top of the league standings
The only goal of the game came from a well-executed penalty by Ramadan Ntafu in the 37th minute.
The penalty was awarded after Kennie Mlenga was fouled in the penalty box, and Ntafu made no mistake in converting the spot-kick.
Chitipa United continues to dominate at home, remaining unbeaten and having secured victories in all home games this season, with only one exception.
Coach McDonald Mtetemera expressed his satisfaction with the win and praised his players' hard work.
He emphasised that Chitipa United is now a serious contender for the Super League title.
"I'm very happy with the win; it shows my players are working hard. We are currently at the top, and we will try to maintain this level of performance to stay in contention. The boys are determined," said Mtetemera during a post-match interview.
Ekwendeni Hammers' coach was disappointed with the result, citing a loss of confidence among his players after conceding the penalty.
However, he expressed confidence that his team would rebound and finish in the top eight.
"I'm very disappointed with the result; we came here to win this game. After conceding that penalty, my players lost confidence, leading to the loss. But I believe we will catch up with the next assignment. The play is not bad, and our target is to finish in the top 8," stated the Ekwendeni Hammers' coach.
Following this victory, Chitipa United claimed the top spot in the TNM Super League with 36 points, closely followed by Nyasa Big Bullets with 34 points. However, the latter has played two fewer games.

In other TNM Super League matches, the Blue Eagles staged a comeback victory against the Mighty Tigers at Nankhaka, while Karonga United defeated Kamuzu Barracks 2-1 at Kasungu Stadium.
