Chitipa United Snaps Winless Streak with 4-1 Rout of Baka
The win lifted Chitipa United to 14th place with nine points, while Baka City dropped to last with seven points from 12 games.
KARONGA, Malawi — Chitipa United ended a 10-match winless streak Sunday, defeating Baka City FC 4-1 in a TNM Super League derby match at Karonga Stadium, writes Lusekero Mhango.
The victory marked coach Christopher Nyambose's first win since returning to the club. Rajab Nyirenda and Francis Nyirenda each scored twice for Chitipa.
Baka, nicknamed the Clever Boys, took the lead in the 15th minute when Nelson Sikaona headed in the opener.
Rajab Nyirenda equalized in the 42nd minute with a corner kick that eluded everyone, including Baka goalkeeper Abraham Mwandenga.
Francis Nyirenda put Chitipa ahead in the 50th minute and added another in the 61st. Rajab Nyirenda sealed the win in the 72nd minute.
"We have had a bad start to the season, and there is a need to catch up," Nyambose said.
"This win is a start to our recovery."
Baka City coach Kondwani Mwalweni acknowledged his team's poor showing.
"We were poor today," Mwalweni said. "We just have to accept the loss and quickly forget about it as other games are coming quick and fast."
