BLANTYRE, Malawi— In a thrilling midweek TNM Super League match held at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre on Wednesday, Chitipa United emerged victorious with a crucial 2-0 win against Bangwe All Stars, writes Happy Valirani.
The victory has catapulted Chitipa United into a position to take the lead in the league table with 39 points, establishing a two-point gap ahead of second-placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
However, it's worth noting that Chitipa United has played three more games than Big Bullets.
The game's decisive goals came in the last 10 minutes, with Lorenzo Ghedo and Godfrey Kwiyoka each scoring one goal for Chitipa United.
The team's coach, McDonald Mtetemera, expressed his delight with the win, acknowledging the challenging first half but praising the second-half resurgence.
"We knew that our opponents would come strong, considering they were playing at home," said Mtetemera. "I thank the boys for following instructions in every game we play. We want to maintain this momentum to continue performing well."
The loss for Bangwe All Stars pushed them down two spots in the league table, from 5th to 7th position. Head coach Abel Mkandawire, while accepting the defeat, commended his team's performance despite their inability to find the back of the net.
"It was a good game; we created numerous scoring chances but failed to score goals. Winning in football is about scoring goals," remarked Coach Mkandawire. "We must accept that it wasn't our day, and we can't blame the boys. We have more games ahead to play."
In another TNM Super League match on the same day, Mafco FC secured a 2-0 victory over Civil Service United at Chitowe Stadium in Nkhotakota.
