CHITIPA UNITED SATISFIED WITH MAIDEN TNM SUPER LEAGUE SEASON
Chitipa United and Mafco each have two matches left in their seasons.
KARONGA, Malawi— Chitipa United played to a 1-1 draw against Mafco FC on Saturday in the TNM Super League, a result that leaves the club satisfied with its performance in its debut top-flight campaign, writes Victor Musongole.
Mphatso Phillimon put Mafco ahead in the 9th minute, but Ghedo Lorenzo equalized for Chitipa United in the 37th on an assist from Ramadan Ntafu. The score remained 1-1 at the final whistle.
The draw means fifth-placed Chitipa United’s chances of a top-four finish are slim with 44 points.
Head coach MacDonald Mtetemera said the team has exceeded expectations in their maiden season and will build on the experience.
“This has been a good season and definitely we will come in a better we have surpassed the target we will come more tactical next year I'm very proud of the team's players, management and supporters,” Mtetemera said.
He called the result fair, saying his team missed opportunities and overcame injuries.
Mafco coach Pritchard Mwansa, whose team is 12th on 33 points, said mistakes cost them against Chitipa.
“We made several mistakes and lack of communication gave our opponent to score we are not satisfied we will work hard in our next two games against Moyale and Blue Eagles they are good teams but I'm confident we will survive,” Mwansa said.
Glem Lemera earned man of the match honors for his standout play.
