Chinese Nationals Arrested for "Assaulting" Employee in Chikwawa
The suspects remain in police custody and will appear before court soon to answer charges of Acts intended to cause grievous harm.
CHIKWAWA, Malawi- Two Chinese nationals are in police custody in Chikwawa on allegations of assaulting their employee, Silaj Maluwa, 37, on suspicions of stealing fuel, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Chikwawa Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer, Constable Chancy Mfune, confirmed the arrest of the duo, identified as Allen Cheng, 37, and Peng Yonggia, 35, both employees of Sinohydro Construction Company.
According to Mfune, the incident occurred on April 14, when Maluwa, a machine operator for the company, reported for duties at one of the canal construction sites under the Shire Valley Transformation Program (SVTP).
"Maluwa was found by his workmates lying unconscious along the earth road that connects to the Chinese Camp," Mfune said.
The matter was reported to the Chikwawa Police Station, and Maluwa was rushed to Chikwawa District Hospital, where he was admitted with a left arm fracture.
"Police detectives from Chikwawa Police Station investigated the matter and nabbed the duo suspects," Mfune added.
Maluwa is still hospitalized, and according to medical personnel, the victim sustained a left arm fracture.
