Chinese delegation donates K40m medical equipment to Ntaja Health Centre.
Ntaja, Malawi - A Chinese delegation under the Lviliang Jiujiu Charity Association of Shanxi Providence in China has donated medical equipment worth K40 million to Ntaja Health Centre, writes Abraham Bisayi.
The donation, which includes an ambulance, 10 wheelchairs, 50 scrub suits, 5 first aid boxes, 10 hospital beds, motorcycles, computers, and kitchen utensils, was received by Deputy Minister of Health Halima Daud MP.
Daud thanked the Chinese delegation for the donation and said it will significantly contribute towards reducing illnesses and deaths in communities around Ntaja that benefit from the health facility.
"I want to assure you that we will use these pieces of equipment with the utmost care so that a lot of people at Ntaja benefit for a long period of time," Daud said.
"Let me urge members of staff at Ntaja health centre and the district health management team in Machinga to ensure that all this medical equipment is well maintained at all times and that no abuse is tolerated."
She further urged traditional leaders to take ownership of the medical equipment and the entire health facility for the benefit of the local population.
Zhang An'Cai, president of the Lviliang Jiujiu Charity Association, said the donation is in response to the country's healthcare system challenges, and the aim is to improve the lives of rural communities.
"We are very grateful for this timely donation as it will help in addressing challenges that Ntaja health facility has been facing in ensuring that they reach the whole population of close to 150,000," said Dr. Jones Chise, director of health and social services for Machinga district council.
"Let me assure the honourable deputy minister that the items will reach their intended facility."
