Malawi-The Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Long Zhou, officially handed over the completion of maintenance work at the Parliament building in Lilongwe this afternoon, writes Benson Kamonjola.
The government of China has invested approximately K1.5 billion in the maintenance work, which took four months to complete.
"The Chinese government is committed to continuing to support the country by ensuring the facility is always in good condition," said Ambassador Zhou.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Catherine Gotan Hara, expressed her gratitude towards the government of China for their work.
"Our relationship has also been there for some time with fruits such as this very building where Parliament sits. We have now even started a friendship group with our sister parliament, which will surely bring much knowledge about each other," said Hara.
The maintenance work, which included the replacement of broken floor tiles and repairing a leaking roof, will help to improve the operations of Parliament.
The building, constructed approximately 12 years ago, had experienced leakage and blocked tiles, necessitating the immediate intervention of authorities.
