Byson Josaya, director of Meducare Private Clinic, said the initiative aims to address knowledge gaps in health awareness.
CHIKWAWA, Malawi — A private clinic and fitness centre have teamed up to provide free health education to residents of Chikwawa district in southern Malawi, writes Moses Thole.
Meducare Private Clinic and Ngabu Fitness Center launched a series of evening health lessons on Sept. 29 at Ngabu Trading Centre. The program runs through Oct. 5, 2024.
Byson Josaya, director of Meducare Private Clinic, said the initiative aims to address knowledge gaps in health awareness.
"There are some health tips that some people don't know," Josaya said.
"People are dying from different diseases like heart attack, and high blood pressure, among others, but they don't know the causes."
The lessons cover various health topics, and attendees can also get tested for diabetes and hypertension.
Jennifer Luka, a participant, praised the program's impact.
"I am enjoying these health lessons. Previously, we were not following good eating habits due to lack of knowledge," she said.
Organizers report that over 1,000 people from nearby villages, including Misongwe, Chinamulungu, Faiti and Ngalu, are attending the sessions.
Josaya plans to continue offering similar health education programs in Ngabu and surrounding areas.
