LILONGWE, Malawi-The Chess Association of Malawi (CHESSAM) received a donation of 100 chess sets from The Gift of Chess on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, writes Happy Valirani.
The donation was made through Susan Namangale, who is the ambassador for The Gift of Chess in Malawi.
Namangale is also the founder of Dadaz Chess Academy, which will be distributing the chess sets to schools, prisons, orphanages, and other centres in Malawi.
"This donation of chess sets to Malawi will help promote the game of chess from the grassroots and significantly contribute towards our vision of making Malawi a chess-playing nation," said Francisco Mwangupili, spokesperson for CHESSAM.
The Gift of Chess is a charitable organisation that transforms lives through the universal language of chess.
The organisation distributes chess sets globally, leveraging chess as a low-cost, high-impact catalyst for opportunity, with key initiatives including education, prison, and refugee outreach.
"We are excited to partner with CHESSAM to help promote the game of chess in Malawi," said Susan Namangale.
"Chess is a great way to teach children and young people valuable skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning. These skills can help them succeed in school, in their careers, and in life."
The donation of 100 chess sets is a significant boost for CHESSAM's efforts to promote the game of chess in Malawi.
The organization hopes to use the sets to reach more children and young people and to help them develop the skills they need to succeed.
