Chakwera speaks with Ukraine's embattled President Zelensky-State House
When Zelensky addressed AU leaders in June, only four of the 55 nations were represented by heads of state, with the remainder sending subordinates.
Malawi: Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera spoke by phone with Ukraine's embattled President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the State House.
According to the State House, the two leaders discussed their mutual desire for stronger Malawi-Ukraine relations.
"President Zelensky thanked President Chakwera for his strong moral leadership, having been one of the first African leaders to speak out against the invasion of Ukraine. He also outlined the various disruptions the war is causing, including the global price of fuel, food, and fertilizer, which he said will regularize once peace and security in Eastern Europe are restored,” says the statement from State House.
The State House says President Chakwera, for his part, commended his counterpart for his inspiring determination to mount a formidable defense of Ukraine's freedom and global stability, and assured him of Malawi's bilateral and multilateral support.
