CFTC Warns Against Certain Cool Drop Water Batches

LILONGWE, Malawi - The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) has warned consumers, traders and the public against purchasing or consuming certain batches of Cool Drop bottled water produced by Zamm Investments, writes Winston Mwale.
In a press release issued on March 19, CFTC said it received information that BATCH NUMBERS BTH277, BTH016, BTH253, BTH018, BTH291 contain visible foreign sediments inside the sealed bottles.
According to findings by the Malawi Bureau of Standards, the contamination occurred due to a delay by the producer in changing filters and membranes, violating standards and posing a health risk.
"This finding is in serious contravention of the MBS Act and the applicable Malawi mandatory standard MS 560:2004," the CFTC statement said.
"It is also a violation of the Competition and Fair Trading Act which prohibits supplying products likely to cause injury when properly used."
CFTC has advised traders not to sell the affected batches if they have them in stock.
Consumers have been urged not to purchase or consume the batches in question.
"We advise consumers to return any such products to suppliers and get a full refund if they already purchased the same," the commission stated.
Consumers who purchased the batches and have proof of purchase have been encouraged to report through a toll-free line or WhatsApp number +265 987 738 749.
