Lilongwe, Malawi - Middlemen working with Central Poultry in Malawi, dealing in products such as chickens and chicken parts, are experiencing substantial financial success, with some even venturing into property ownership and purchasing vehicles, writes Christopher Jimu.
Among these thriving middlemen is Obvious Mkumba, based in Area 36, who has successfully established four outlets in Lilongwe and Dedza.
At the age of 40, Mkumba has dedicated nearly two decades to his role as a Central Poultry middleman, and he attests that the rewards have been significant.
Initially hesitant about becoming a middleman, Mkumba credits his patience for his current prosperity.
He proudly states, "I have managed to build two houses, and I am driving, apart from having other businesses. My children are going to very good schools. Apart from that, I also have about five employees, hence helping the government reduce unemployment."
Mkumba's future plans involve expanding his selling outlets and creating more employment opportunities.
Expressing gratitude to Central Poultry for providing him with the opportunity, he encourages young men to explore various business ventures to lead productive lives, saying, "I want to encourage young men to venture into various businesses so that they can lead productive lives."
Victor Mwandama, another middleman, shares Mkumba's enthusiasm for Central Poultry, affirming that he now enjoys a comfortable life with financial security.
Central Poultry has approximately a hundred middlemen actively engaged in selling chickens and chicken parts, further contributing to the thriving poultry industry in Malawi.
