Zomba, Malawi — The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) is calling on journalists to play an active role in advocating for good governance by effectively utilizing Access to Information (ATI). According to CCJP, ATI is a valuable tool intended to empower citizens and journalists to promote good governance, writes Peter Ngwenyama.
Tuntufye Simwimba, a program officer at CCJP, expressed these sentiments during a training session for journalists in Zomba.
The training aimed to equip journalists with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively use ATI for the dissemination of critical information to the public.
Simwimba emphasized the crucial role of journalists in disseminating information that is of great importance to society.
He underscored the importance of journalists being well-versed in the operation of ATI, which can facilitate transparency and accountability.
CCJP is an organization dedicated to promoting good governance by addressing issues such as corruption, health promotion, human rights protection (including the rights of people living with albinism), environmental concerns, and various aspects of economic justice.
The organization emphasizes integral human development, gender equality, social justice, and economic fairness.
Tiyamike Mao Njanji, a journalist who participated in the training from Chanco Community Radio, praised CCJP for organizing the event.
