Catholic Women's Group Seeks Support for Golden Jubilee Assembly in Malawi

LILONGWE, Malawi — The Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa (ACWECA) has called for public support ahead of its Plenary Assembly and Golden Jubilee celebrations set for August 18-24, 2024, in Malawi, writes Bridgette Mwanoka.
During a press briefing Tuesday, ACWECA President Sr. Rosalia Sakayombo urged for prayers and financial contributions.
"We humbly request all people of goodwill to join us in prayer and consider supporting us financially as we prepare for this important occasion," Sakayombo said.
The event, themed "Transformative Holistic Formation for Authentic Living Towards a Deeper Evangelization in the ACWECA Region and Beyond," will be held at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe.
An inaugural Mass is scheduled for August 19 at Civo Stadium, to be led by Archbishop Gianluca Perici, Apostolic Nuncio to Malawi and Zambia, and Archbishop George Tambala of Lilongwe.
Sr. Mary Claire Kapachika, Chairperson of the ACWECA Celebrations Committee, highlighted ongoing preparations, emphasizing the importance of logistics and fundraising efforts.
Founded in 1974, ACWECA represents over 300 congregations and more than 30,000 sisters from ten countries in Eastern and Central Africa.
The organization aims to empower consecrated women as effective evangelizers in their communities.
Sakayombo stressed the assembly's significance, stating, "This assembly is not just a gathering but a reaffirmation of our commitment to serving our communities through evangelization."
