BLANTYRE, Malawi — The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is scheduled to hold a draw for the Castel Challenge Cup last 16 on Thursday at Mpira Village in Blantyre, writes Victor Musongole.
This highly anticipated tournament garnered a remarkable 934 team entries nationwide and features a record prize fund of K320 million, making it the most lucrative cup competition in the nation.
Six teams from the southern, central, and northern regions will compete in this event.
The top four Super League teams as of November 6 are to be seeded and will not face one another.
They will be placed in one pot and drawn against the other 12 teams in a separate pot. The draw will also determine the home teams for the matches.
The eight victors who progress to the quarterfinals will be paired using assigned numbers, with the first team meeting the eighth, the second facing the seventh, the third taking on the sixth, and the fourth contesting the fifth.
In addition to the coveted title, numerous individual awards are on offer.
The Player of the Tournament, Golden Gloves, and Golden Boot winners will each receive K500, 000, while the Discovery of the Tournament will take home K250, 000.
The inaugural champion of the tournament will earn K50 million, with the runner-up securing K25 million. Semifinalists will receive K10 million, quarterfinalists will pocket K5 million, and the last 16 losers will be awarded K1.5 million.
