Cameroonian Striker's Brace Lifts Wanderers in Malawi Super League Match

BLANTYRE, Malawi— Sama Thierry Tanjong scored twice to lead Mighty Mukuru Wanderers to a 2-0 victory over Chitipa United in a TNM Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium on Thursday, writes Happy Valirani.
Tanjong, who joined Wanderers from Cameroon in May 2024, opened the scoring in the 19th minute and sealed the win with his second goal in the 58th minute.
His performance earned him the man of the match award.
The win keeps Wanderers in second place with 24 points, nine behind league leaders Silver Strikers.
Chitipa United remains at the bottom of the 14-team league with nine points.
Wanderers Head Coach Meke Mwase praised his team's resilience.
"It's very difficult when you are coming from a loss, but we congratulate the players for working very hard," Mwase said.
"We got the three points that we needed much."
Chitipa United Head Coach Christopher Nyambose acknowledged the superior play of their opponents.
"We have to accept that we have lost to the better team," he said.
"We lacked marking when we were off position of the ball, and Wanderers capitalized on that to outplay us."
In other Thursday matches, Silver Strikers dominated Mzuzu City Hammers 5-0, Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos drew 2-2 with Kamuzu Barracks, and Moyale Barracks edged Baka City 2-1.
The results further solidify Silver Strikers' position at the top of the league, while Wanderers' win keeps them in contention for the title.
