MWANZA, Malawi— A small-scale business group has donated food and household items worth K250,000 to support a blind widow and her family in Mwanza District, drawing praise from local traditional authorities, writes Brian Wasili, MANA.
Inkosi Kanduku Maseko commended the group's donation Sunday at Njazo Village, which included a 50-kilogram bag of maize flour, soya pieces, sugar, salt, and soap supplies.
"We need more of such people with love who can provide support to the vulnerable considering the cost of living is now very expensive," Kanduku said.
The donation assists Triphonia Chabwera, 58, who lost her sight to illness years ago. Her situation worsened after her caregiver daughter suffered a stroke in January 2023, leaving her paralyzed.
Chabwera now lives with three grandchildren in challenging conditions.

Member Sellina Magombo said the donation came from members pooling their limited resources.
"We just wanted to demonstrate that the little we have can be shared with those whose situations are worse than ours," Magombo said.
Chabwera expressed gratitude for the unexpected aid, noting it would provide her first proper Christmas meal.
She also highlighted her need for better housing, as her current dwelling is vulnerable to rain damage.
