Bullets, Wanderers Brace for Thrilling Blantyre Derby
In the 2023 season, the two teams met thrice, but the two super league games ended in a draw.
BLANTYRE, Malawi — The highly-anticipated Blantyre derby match between the arch-rivals, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, scheduled for Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, is set to provide soccer lovers with an exciting and entertaining football clash as both teams declared their readiness for the showdown in the TNM Super League match, writes Happy Valirani.
This is their first meeting since the start of the 2024 TNM Super League season.
Both Bullets and Wanderers have the same number of points (8 points) from the same number of four games played so far, and they are being separated by goal difference on the log table, with Wanderers having a superior goal difference of 6, sitting in 3rd place, while Bullets are 4th.
"The preparations have been going well. We expect a lot of entertainment in the game, and I urge supporters to come in large numbers," said Calisto Pasuwa, head coach for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
"As I said, derbies are always tricky, each and everyone wants to win, and the supporters themselves, the way they come in their large numbers, means they also need to win. So as coaches, we need to be very tactically good at whatever we do. We still have some players who are still out due to injuries, but the rest of the other players are ready for the game," he added.
On the other hand, Meke Mwase, assistant coach for Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, said his team is ready to carry the day on Saturday.
"We are expecting an exciting game with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on Saturday. The preparations have been going very well, and we have the full squad, everyone is ready for the game. We know that Bullets were the champions of the 2023 season, but this time around, we want to be on the winning side by the end of the day on Saturday," said Mwase.
In the 2023 season, the two teams met thrice, but the two super league games ended in a draw.
The first game ended goalless, while the second game ended 1-1.
However, Bullets beat Wanderers in the Castel Challenge Cup semi-final on post-match penalties.
