Bullets, Tigers Settle for Goalless Draw in Tense Encounter
The hard-fought stalemate keeps both teams searching for their first win after two rounds of the new campaign.
BLANTYRE, Malawi - In a tightly contested and goalless Malawian TNM Super League match on Saturday, defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wakawaka Tigers settled for a 0-0 draw at Kamuzu Stadium, writes Happy Valirani.
It was an evenly matched game with few clear scoring chances as battles took place mainly in midfield, with neither side able to dominate possession.
Both teams are still searching for their first win of the 2024 season. Bullets were held to a 1-1 draw by Dedza Dynamos in their opener, while Tigers lost 3-1 to newly-promoted Creck Sporting Club.
The result sees Bullets, with two points from two games, sit ninth in the standings. Tigers have one point from their two matches and occupy 12th position.
Mighty Tigers defender Alex Kambilinya was named man of the match for an outstanding performance. "It was a tough game, you know we are coming from a loss, but we managed to work on those weaknesses," said Tigers coach Leo Mpulula.
"Bullets were packed in midfield but my boys managed to contain them. We managed to kill any attack, especially in midfield where they possessed too much."
Bullets coach Calisto Pasuwa rued his team's lack of creativity, saying: "We didn't do much, especially in midfield, and we were very slow in our build-ups. We played mostly in the defensive zone."
Pasuwa, however, pointed to the absence of 12 flu-stricken players as a factor, adding: "It's a point gained, remember we play 30 games."
